From a very young age, I was always overweight. It's not a tale of pity or sorrow; it was simply my reality. But deep down, I always had a desire to be slimmer. Throughout the early part of my life, I tried just about every method possible to lose weight—Weight Watchers, the Atkins Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, calorie counting, and intense gym workouts. I’m sure as you read this, you might be nodding along, having tried some of these yourself.


Each of these methods worked for me... at least for a while. I would lose weight, but it never stayed off. Often, I’d find the weight creeping back on, sometimes even more than before. This cycle continued for years, but everything changed when a significant milestone loomed on the horizon: my 40th birthday.


With my birthday in October, I realised in February of my 39th year that if I wanted to make a change, I had to start immediately. That’s when I made the decision that would change my life—I joined Slimming World.


I can vividly remember walking into my very first group on the Ravenhill Road in Belfast. The moment I stepped through the door, I was met by a lively, buzzing room and a lovely consultant who made me feel instantly at home.


The consultant explained the Slimming World plan to me, emphasising that I could eat anything I wanted—pasta, potatoes, rice, chicken—nothing was off-limits. Honestly, I thought she was mad! But after trying so many other diets, I decided to put my 100% trust in the plan, in her, and in Slimming World.


After my first full week of following the plan, never feeling hungry, I returned to the group and had lost 4lbs! While some people might have been discouraged, seeing others lose 6 or 8lbs in their first week, I was determined not to let anything stop me. Week by week, I continued to lose 1, 2, or 3lbs, all while eating the foods I loved, enjoying nights out, and living my life to the fullest.


I became so passionate about Slimming World that I volunteered to help out in the group each week. It was my way of giving back to something that had already given me so much. The week of my 40th birthday was a particularly special one—I received my 5 Stone weight loss certificate in group that Wednesday, just days before my party. It felt like I had won the lottery! I celebrated my milestone birthday in a specially made Armani grey/silver suit, feeling and looking like a million dollars.


Not long after, Slimming World approached me with a question that would shape my future: would I consider becoming a Slimming World consultant? I jumped at the chance. The opportunity to help others feel as I did was something I couldn’t pass up.


I opened my first group in Fourwinds on a Wednesday evening, starting with 30 members. Within just four weeks, that number grew to over 130 members. The momentum continued, and I went on to run multiple sessions across various locations—three sessions in Castlereagh, two in Mountpottinger, three in Duncairn Gardens, and two in Belvoir Park Golf Club—all while working a full-time job. At the peak of my Slimming World career, I was helping over 300 members per week to lose weight. There’s no feeling in the world like it.


I’ve always strived to create a unique, special buzz in my groups. While Slimming World provides us consultants with a framework to help members achieve the best results, I believe in adding my own touch—an extra bit of sparkle, empathy, care, and attention. When you come to my Slimming World group, you’ll find something different. You'll step into a welcoming room filled with members chatting and catching up with each other, a social team that’s kind and supportive, and a beautifully decorated space that reflects the care and fun I want to bring to your weight loss journey.
